Why you must attend the Morningstar Investment Conference

Jul 31, 2017

We are approaching the annual Morningstar Investment Conference. Attracting delegates from across the country, this must-attend event poses a unique opportunity to engage with leading investment professionals. You can see a quick video here.

A throwback to earlier conferences reminds us of prominent personalities who delivered stark insights during their respective keynote addresses.

Jayant Sinha, then the Union Minister of State for Finance, spoke about the transformational changes underway in the Indian economy and narrowed down on six concrete game-changing reform initiatives launched by the government. In a very engaging fashion, he threw questions to the audience and even provided the answers to bring his point home.

Nandan Nilekani, co-founder and chairman of EkStep, co-founder of Infosys, and chairman of UIDAI, spoke about how India is at a very seminal point in the use of fintech in financial services. Financial services are being fundamentally transformed and it is an excellent time for incumbents to include technology in the business strategy, as well as for newcomers to come up with new business models.

When Nilesh Shah was Deputy CEO at Axis Capital, he delivered the keynote address in his signature style. He spoke of random facts which seemed perplexing but used it to present a frame of reference.

For instance, he spoke of The Louvre as one of the most visited attractions in France. Why did this museum feature in a presentation on India’s macro-economic scenario? Because Shah used it to deftly draw the audience’s attention to India’s position in the competitive global travel industry. The Louvre attracted more visitors than the whole of India in FY13. China, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Korea and Indonesia each attracted more tourists than India in the period from 1995 to 2011.
