Morningstar India hosts complimentary events across the country to help financial advisers prepare their businesses for success in today's environment. The next event will be held in Mumbai on May 30.
The content is aimed at empowering you with the key trends emerging in investment management and financial advisory.
Investors are known to face biases like confirmation bias, herding behavior, loss aversion and anchoring. In recent years, there has been a slew of research concerning the biases that advisers exhibit as well. Although advisers and other professionals are highly experienced and skilled in their trade, they are not immune to the everyday behavioral biases we all face. They can make mistakes in investment judgment, process, or implementation, and can fall prey to herd mentality, prompted by the behavior of clients or their peers. Overconfidence is one such cognitive bias that often affects advisers. Although it’s not possible for someone to avoid all behavioral biases, planners need to understand these instincts better to help them in advising clients who are facing the same issues. Steve Wendel, Head of Behavioral Science at Morningstar Inc, will talk about the biases advisers face and how they can overcome them.
Investors increasing focus on Environment Social and Governance (ESG) investing is evident by the growth in ESG assets globally. According to a McKinsey report, ESG assets totaled USD 22 trillion across Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Europe and the US at the start of 2016. There are 187 US-listed open-end funds and ETFs in this space, with total assets of USD 75 billion. Back in India, ESG is still a niche market. That said, the government and SEBI has recognized the importance of adopting responsible business practices in the interest of the social set-up. Sivananth Ramachandran, Director of Quantitative Research at Morningstar India, will share insights on the emerging trends in ESG and whether it will find acceptance among Indian investors.
